It has come to our attention that there is a false rumour spreading across the internet and via text message regarding a child abduction at an IKEA store in Hong Kong.
Actually this rumour has appeared all over the world including Hong Kong, UK and USA. This rumour refers to a child that is abducted while shopping at supermarket or department store with the family, and is taken to the toilets where the head is shaved and changed to another cloth.
This false rumour has been circulating around for more than 10 years. From the number of calls from our customers we have recently received it is obvious that the rumour has reappeared. We would like to restate that this is a complete false rumour. Here is the latest version that is spreading via internet and text message:
"Dear All. This is a very serious message that I hope you can pass on to as many people as you can. Last night at IKEA Shatin store a 3 year old girl went missing. Fortunately their policy when something like this happens is to lock the doors. The little girl was found in the toilets and her hair was shaved and changed to other clothes. This came from an employee who was there last night. Please pass the message round to as many as you can and remain extra vigilant with your own children.¡¨
If you have received this message, please do not worry. You just have a quick internet search on Google
or Yahoo search engine, you can easily reveal the various forms of this hoax has taken over the years.
