A shared bedroom can be the answer to a lack of space, but it can also have the added benefit of bringing you closer together. In this compact city home, it made sense for this family of three to share a bedroom. Here’s how it works for them…

The corner of a bed with blue and white bedding next to a chest of drawers in a white bedroom.
A space to share
Mieko and her husband put two beds together to make the extra wide bed they share with their young daughter. “We have lots of colourful cushions to put the focus on our bed and the rest of the decor is intentionally simple,” says Mieko. “Blue is a relaxing colour to live with, and wooden furniture helps us feel connected to nature. There’s a picture ledge by the bed for our daughter’s storybooks.”
A simple wooden wall-mounted clock and a bookshelf filled with children’s books above a cushion-filled bed.
String lights and photos zig-zagged on the wall above a bed filled with cushions.
