Home visit: set the table for summer

Even a small gathering can be a special occasion with a thoughtful table setting. Find out what you need to dress a table to impress this summer.

Mix and match crockery

When choosing your crockery, don’t be too concerned about finding a full matching set. A mix of different patterns on your bowls, side plates and dinner plates in a similar theme will look more creative when stacked on top of each other.

Bring nature to the table

Rather than buying a bouquet to decorate your table, give it a homemade touch by picking blooms from your garden to put in a vase and tying some stems to string to create a simple seasonal garland.

Let guests help themselves

Keep your meal relaxed and sociable by letting guests pour their own drinks and choose their own tumblers and glasses.

Choose contrasting textiles

Dressing a table with textiles instantly makes it look more inviting. Try combining a runner made from natural fibres with linen and lace table cloths for a modern twist on traditional style.
