Proper lighting reduces strain on your eyes and improves your focus, making work easier. Top tip: a work lamp with an adjustable head lets you direct the light to where you need it. Have some other lamps in the rest of the room to prevent harsh, tiring contrasts between lit and unlit areas and to create a nice mood.
Natural daylight from windows is very important, too. If possible, place your desk perpendicular to the window to avoid bright daylight in your eyes or reflected off your screen. Curtains and even better, blinds, let you control incoming light, and boost your privacy.
